By 1991, it was decided that a mission under the patronage of Saint John Neumann would be established. Construction began shortly thereafter, and the church building was dedicated by the Most Reverend Robert E. Mulvee, seventh Bishop of Wilmington, on January 5, 1995. On October 7, 2007, the Most Reverend Michael A. Saltarelli, eight Bishop of Wilmington, issued a decree establishing Saint John Neumann as its own parish.
